About

When I was a little girl, my mother taught me to sew and I am so thankful she did. I started out making doll clothes and graduated to making my own clothing. Moved on to sewing for the home, sewing crafts, children’s costumes, children’s clothing, smocking, French Hand Sewing, quilting, cross stitching and needle crafting. Then I started working full-time and sewing time diminished.

Recently retired and with time to sew, I’ve again fallen in love with sewing. I enjoy following sewing blogs and finding inspiration from others. I look forward to learning more about pattern fitting, fabrics, and improving my sewing skills. Joining the 2018 Ready to Wear Fast (2018 RTW Fast) hosted by Sarah Gunn, co-author of The Tunic Bible, is the perfect opportunity to hone my sewing skills while simplifying my closet. My plans are to document this sewing journey on the blog. I have much to learn about  maintaining a blog, so if you have suggestions, send them my way.

In November 2016 I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer. My scripture reading the day of the first biopsy was in Proverbs 31. I focused on verse 25: Strength and dignity are her clothing. And she smiles at the future. My desire is to be clothed in strength and dignity and to smile at the future, whatever it may hold. As I pondered on a name for this blog, I smiled and …. she Smiles she Sews was born.

Happy sewing, crafting, cooking, and decorating to you! Most importantly, Happy Life to you!

Blessings,

Maribeth

PS – I am doing great health wise- had surgery in January 2017 but no chemo or radiation. I am loving my new lifestyle of eating a plant-based diet and may occasionally post recipes or share tidbits regarding my changes toward a heathy lifestyle.
